Wish I had checked in this website before I parted with 2.5k£ in exactly same way as the others below. Email came from Airbnb.com asked me to trf funds to AirBnb UK, LLoyds TSB. Contacted the police and Airbnb who I have to say have been useless - three calls in and nothing back. I now realise that this is a huge numbers game they do not vet the owners which I was unaware of. Like the others my emails came from @Airbnb.com. Feel sick - will chase for reimbursement as husband is a lawyer. What kind of a business is Airbnb - someone is running around using their emails - putting fake properties on their website and they DO NOT CARE. I have written twice to the CEO and nothing back at all. The Company from what I can see is private, owned by three individuals who I presume want to IPO at some stage - no one will go near them with this kind of bad publicity. I am telling as many people as possible. I believe these criminals are London based and that Airbnb should be contacting the FBI /Scotland Yard.
If I was the CEO of AirBnb. [email protected] I'd be trying to protect my business and not ignoring innocent victims and hoping they'll just disappear. Unless of course AirBnB work on numbers and we are a small minority of users who have been scammed which are written into their business model ! Also why not notify users of this scam on their website unless they are thinking of IPO-ing and don't want bad publicity. Well now you've got it boys.

  • Hello, the thread is ongoing on http://www.scambook.com/report/view/181558/AirBNB-Leader-For-Welcoming-Fraud-Scams-Complaint-181558-for-$10,070.00

(to remind you that you are not alone !)

Did you husband, as a lawyer, make any progress in his investigations?

Where are you from? I am based in Germany. Other victims are based in the US, France and the Netherlands. Is there any point in setting up a "victim group" to file a legal complain to Airbnb for negligence (scam was ongoing already for 4 months before they told their users) and to Barclays for breaching banking regulations ?

    Kind regards.
