I have a brand new iPhone. I called what I thought was Apple Support - I even stated I was trying to reach Apple Canada technical support and was told it was a central tech support number in the US. I kept referring to my free 90 day tech support as I just got the iPhone yesterday, and they said my problem was not covered and it would cost $99.99 to change the Apple ID, but they would reduce it to $49.99. I asked about taking it to an Apple Store instead, and was told it would cost even more than that. My issue was that I wanted to change the Apple ID on the device which I set up last night - it is my children's phone, but I entered my Apple ID not realizing we would then be sharing my iCloud storage. I asked specifically if there was any other way to access my children's free iCloud storage, and so they would not be getting all my iCloud info downloading to their phone, and was told no, I had to have the Apple ID on the device changed, that a technician had to access the phone remotely and since it was a software issue, it was not covered on my free 90 Day tech support as a new iPhone. It was not until after they got my creditcard # and transferred my to tech support that I discovered I just had to create a new Apple ID for their iCloud account, which I did myself on the phone with info provided by the technician (he was honest at least!!). I then asked to be transferred back to the billing dept and have them reverse the charge. It was at that point I was informed they are not Apple, but a 3rd party company. That person (Vesper)did agree to cancel the $49.99, and indicated the payment had not yet been through, so she cancelled it and said she deleted all the account info. I hope this is true.I also then found out from Apple that all I have to do to create a new Apple ID for the device is to Reset the phone (since it was new it didn't have anything on it anyway). Fortunately all I lost was a few very frustrating hours (as long as they don't try to actually put the charge through- but I am concerned they now have my credit card info! I was blatantly deceived - the technician (Leo) and the last service rep(Vesper)were honest, but the first rep (Fiona) and her supervisor(I didn't catch her name) were outright fraudulent.
