While searching internet a site opened on my screen for "Private Search" and began to download unknown programs onto my computer. I couldn't stop it, so went to a website that appeared to be official Microsoft help. The first pages I saw on site were labeled Microsoft. The person was seemingly helpful, asked for access to look at what was happening on the computer. He showed several screens indicating that there was something shutting down my Microsoft programs. He said it was a very bad virus and would seriously damage my computer. After some hesitation I paid $249 for a two year subscription for tech support and he started to work on my computer. The end result was that my computer was trashed, programs didn't work, and it appears that he was mining my docs for personal information, as several ended up in odd places. The name of the company changed on the billing to RELIABLEREMOTEHELP.COM GUANGZHOU CHINA. The contract he sent me was not the one I saw online, and had no mention of Microsoft.
In retrospect, I was lied to many times and pressured into an option I would not otherwise have chosen.
