Complaint 76015 Details

Due to an overwhelming tax debt, I decided to contact JK Harriss whom I had seen and heard advertised on television and radio many times. I checked them out and they seemed to be legit and have a good deal of success stories. However, due to the panic I was quickly developing over my situation, I apparently did not dig deep enough.
As I stated earlier I had heard of this company, JK Harris, that claimed they would take any tax issue/debt and settle it including several possible scenarios from arranging and setting up a comfortable payment plan to settling your debt for pennies on the dollar. I made an appointment and went to there office and described my situation, how I got to this point, and what expectations I had in resolving it. There agent explained the steps that would be taken on my behalf and several possible outcomes. I agreed to the terms and they presumabley went to work for me. The process started out very slow at first but after several inquiries on my part things seemed to be progressing. Although looking back, 15 months does seem a bit excessive, but hindsight is 20/20. We seemed to be at a point where the whole thing was finally near completion when I attempted to contact the agent that was handling my case, my call was answered by a recording, stating that due to bankruptcy JK Harris had closed there doors for business. This recording gave no information as to where this left there clients or what, if any options we had. This is when and how I learned, atleast in my opinion, I had been scammed. I'm certainly no expert on bankruptcy but it would seem reasonable to me that this didn't happen over night and that there would have been ample time to atleast give some notification to there clients. I am now in the position of having an unresolved tax debt that is growing daily and having no idea where to turn on top of no clue as to what if any recourse I have with JK Harris. If there is anyone out there that can help me or atleast advise me as to any steps I can take toward resolution of either or both situations it would certainly be appreciated. Thank you, Taxed
