I was in the process of upgrading my father's wireless phone to a smartphone. I did the same for myself about eight(8) months ago with no problem. When I called 1-800-922-0204, as directed by Jasmine, the chat employee I was requesting information to continue the transaction. There is no mention of upgrade charge online or from Jasmine. When I am given an employee, I cannot remember his name, he states that there is a $30 upgrade fee. I informed him there has no correspondence online of such a fee, and I never had to pay an upgrade fee. "This is new, and it has only been in effect for about 2 months. I informed this man that no one should have to pay this fee, beause the customers were never informed of this new charge. He stated he was sorry but ATT, Mobile 1 and others have this fee. I informed him I did not care what other companies do, my concern was with Verizon. I added, since they could not charge us for using credit cards for payments they are using this upgrade fee, which the verizon customer is not informed of such charges until toward the end of the transaction. This reminds me of the "ole bate and switch" that companies use to use, even though it was illegal. I told Verizon to keep their phone, and said goodbye. My father stated his upgrade would have given them more money per month, but they just missed out.
