Roomster is a highly unethical company. In order to view emails and contact potential roommates you have to sign up for a paid account. They allow you the option to sign up for any of several "subscriptions" including 3 days, 2 weeks or monthly, but instead of expiring after the time you have paid for is over, if you do not manually cancel the subscription before the time is over, they upgrade you to a continuing monthly subscription and steal funds from your account ($29.95 a month).

They have a clause hidden in their terms of service that states they will continue withdrawing your funds without your consent or knowledge after your initial subscription expires, but make no mention of that fact openly when you are signing up for the paid account, or in the discriptions of the packages you are signing up for, essentially tricking you into thinking you are signing up for only the time and amount of money you specify and then using this as an excuse to steal money from your accounts.

When you complain, their customer service gives you the run around via email, and they have no phone number to contact anyone at their offices. In addition, the website is extremely clumsy to search and use and the cancellation process for a paid account is convoluted and difficult to determine if it went through correctly. I have filed disputes with my bank and Paypal, which I used to make the initial transaction, and will be reporting them to the better business bureau.

Update: 07/04/2013

This is a super late follow up. After disputed the charges with paypal and my bank by explaining the fact that the renewing charges were hidden from me, and that I never received the services they were charging me for, I was able get my money back.
