Sorry to hear you've been scammed. I'm afraid there's nothing you can do about this except treat it as an expensive learning experience:
1. You should also suspect anybody from Nigeria (or anywhere with an obscure address). Even for seemingly "valid" addresses, do a search to check if the address is legitimate, try to find out who lives there, get the telephone number and call to confirm the person's name (Don't ask "is your name Sanley?" - Ask: "I'm about to send you the item you ordered, please confirm your name and tell me what you ordered."
2. MOST IMPORTANT: *WAIT* until you receive payment from paypal before shipping anything! I would think that's pretty obvious. Remember also that payments can be reversed/refunded by paypal if the customer complains or claims that the item wasn't received. So spend the extra money on getting your item tracked and signed for. Then if paypal tries to take the money back, you can provide proof that the item was delivered. If the customer claims that the item wasn't "as per the description" then you ask for him to send it back - at his own expense - and to ensure that the item is registered. If you don't receive the item back then you won't have to make any refund.
It's common sense. Don't be in such a hurry to sell your goods. The rule to remember is: Wait until you've received payment and make sure it gets to your customer securely.
The only thing you can try to do is place a negative comment on the buyer's transaction (but I think you've left it too late, you only have 30-45 days to do so). it's probably also too late to complain to paypal, but you could still submit one just in case he is a serial con artist (they can track him from his bank account details in paypal). Try to find the buyer's profile (he may have a new one) and check what he's bought and perhaps contact other sellers for feedback.
