I received an email offer as an existing MagicJack user to get MagicJack Plus for $34.95 plus $7.95 S&H (total $42.90). There was a link in the email to click to place an order. After I entered my information and clicked on the button to submit my order, I received an error message that my payment method had failed and that I should submit another card. That was on 09 DEC 2011. I did not submit another card and am glad I didn't because it appears that the error message is being used as a technique to collect card numbers in order to make fraudulent charges. I tried two or three more times to place an order but received the same error message page each time. I received a call from my credit card company because of unusual charges, which amounted to 7 from MagicJack for $44.96 each. I contacted MagicJack via online chat through their site. They tried but were unable to resolve the issues I found with their order site. They stated that someone from MagicJack would contact me by email to resolve the problems and that the improper charges would automatically be refunded. No one has emailed me or refunded the charges as of this writing. I inquired why $44.96 was being charged when the only charges stated totaled $42.90 and was informed that there was a 4.8% tax for online orders that wasn't disclosed. I found an email address for MagicJack by searching online and sent a message 11 DEC 11. Someone responded quickly that they have no record of any charges to my credit card. I called the credit card company 14 DEC 11 and was told that two more charges of $44.96 from MagicJack had been added to my account. I had done nothing in the meantime, and two more improper charges appeared??!! Given the circumstances, I don't see how the charges on my account from MagicJack could be mere errors. I believe there is criminal intent to commit online credit card fraud either by MagicJack or their agent(s) or employee(s).

  • NEVER NEVER EVER GIVE ANYONE YOUR CREDIT CREDIT CARD NUMBER ESPECIALLY YOUR DEBIT CARD NUMBER TO ANYONE OVER THE PHONE OR ONLINE UNLESS YOU HAVE RESEARCHED THE COMPANY THROUGH GOOGLE.COM....ALSO NOT A GOOD IDEA TO GIVE YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER TO FAMILY OR FRIENDS...PERIOD. THAT IS YOUR PERSONAL PROPERTY. CONTACT YOUR BANK OR GO TO THEM AND BLOCK THE AMOUNT . YOU USUALLY HAVE 48 HOURS HOLDING PERIOD AT THE BANK BEFORE IT CLEARS,(WELL THAT IS HOW MY BANK OPERATES) IF YOU ARE TOO LATE THEN JUST CANCEL YOUR CREDIT CARD (IT'S A LITTLE INCONVENIENT FOR US BUT WORTH IT) AND GET A NEW ONE. I HAD TO DO THAT AND GOT A NEW ONE THE SAME DAY. PLEASE PASS THIS ON TOO SO THAT WE CAN STOP THESE KINDS OF ABUSE THROUGH SCAMS.
