Call Checkmate Appliances in Port Jefferson, NY. Serviceman in unmarked white van came at 4pm. Asked for his $80 cash. Said had 40 years experience on Caloric Ovens. Said model RST399!
Said out of production, parts hard to find! Had simular readily available baking element. Original part goes for $380 installed.
Serviceman then looked in truck came in with $40 replacement part.Serviceman broke one of the spade connectors to the element off. Tried to get broken wire out of wiring hole, no luck. Help moved wall oven out. Repaired with readily available replacement part, priced on internet for $40, local repair shop wants $49 with next day delivery. Repairman then gave husband, who is not the homeowner papers to sign and wanted $300 more. Husband stop pay on out of state check when he learned that part was $39 on internet and was upset that repairman said was discontinued part and tough to locate. Husband advised serviceman that" he better not find the part cost was so high!" Husband call next day to Fast Appliance Service and owner threated to place lien on his wife house. Bottom line these guy's charge almost ten time the cost of the standard replacement part as an original! Tried to resolve, but owner threatern to file lien. Agreement says " no checks accepted!"
Wife, sole homeowner, never was part of transaction not signed any agreement or contract, cannot be liened!
