Recently I was approached by Star Recruitment.

I saw a add on the net, about 3 months ago, regarding “Film extras wanted”. So I decided to look into it. I researched the organization and they appeared to be above board. One of their main rolls, as stated by them, is to act as an agency for people who want extras work within the film and television industry. They also stated that the “Studios” and “TV Shows” use them as well as other agencies to find appropriate extras. So I filled out a quick questionnaire and added my resume and sent it off. There were no fees charged.

Flash forward to 5 Jun 2014 and I was contacted by this organization. My name had apparently come up in their search engine as being suitable for an extras position in a tv mini series currently in production called Gallipoli. Apparently the directors were looking for extras with military experience and, as I had served 20 years in the Army. They thought I would be suitable.

However to be able to get this roll I had to complete my online profile on their website. For this I needed “Professional photos”.

I don’t know any photographers and have never had any dealings with any. So they recommended I use one they have used before here in Adelaide. I had to send $100 to Star recruitment as a booking fee with a balance of $230 to be paid to the photographer. Yes, no red flags raised for me when they should have.

They also said they wanted photos in 3 styles – Business, Casual and beach attire.

I don’t own a suit and my casual clothes were a little out of date. So stupidly I went and hired a suit and purchased some new clothes. In the end that made me out of pocket another $300.

I went thru all this process, shelled out all this money and, surprise surprise, I have never heard from them again. All my emails go unanswered and all my phone messages never get returned.

I have emailed the person, who on this site, states he is the owner, however even that has not been answered.
