My electric company was Connecticut Light & Power (CL & P). During the winter months, for my 1-bedroom apartment, my bill rose to $250.00 a month. I thought this was high, so I was receptive when a man came to my door claiming to be from the electric company. He looked over my bill and pointed out I was being charged too much for "delivery charges", and that CL & P were probably not using a local delivery service. He assured me he could save me on my electric bill, and checked my meter, had me sign a form and left. My bill zoomed up to $370 a month during the winter, and my elctric rate doubled. I switched back to CL & P, but I now have an 1,000.00 electric bill I can't pay off.
