After applying for an online loan I received a call from a certain "Mary Hopkins" from "Equinox Monetary Services",offering me a $10,000 loan at 9% interest rate. In order to secure the loan I was to either get someone to co-sign or make 2 monthly payments totalling $500. "The money will be deposited into your account within 4hrs of you making this payment, which would be applied to your principal"she said. She emailed an application package which looked quite professional, complete with legal terms etc. No grama or spelling mistakes in the "Agreement". However her emails themselves were full of grammatical errors. Thats one of the red flags I should have observed but foolishly ignored. The other red flags: she called from a blocked number; at one point she dropped the call then called a few seconds later as "her battery had died" ;well finally, a dead giveaway of a scam, she asked me to wire the prepayment to the "Lender" via Western Union. Which I foolishly did. $500 plus a $30 fee that she said would be refunded. Did the loan ever make it to my account? Of course not, what was I thinking? Shame on you scammers, preying on people at their time of need. Karma is a bitch and it will catch up with you!
