On the 6th of March after applying for what I thought was a loan, £69.72 was taken from my bank account under the name CreditMaze. I had no idea who they were so I checked online to see if I recognised the website and I have never ever been on that website in my life. I also checked my web history and my computer has never been to their website.

When I phoned the company to enquire they had no idea who I was until I gave them my details, which I thought was strange. They didn't shed any light on situation at all and just told me that I had done it and that I have been offered 100's of loans and phone contracts etc in return. I asked him if there was anyway to cancel this or get a refund and he told me I had to write a letter which I have done.

The person on the phone also stated that I, "should be more careful with my card details" and that "Distance Selling", "Cool Off", law didn't apply to them because they are a subscription service and that I would't get a refund.

I phoned my bank Halifax, who were also very unhelpful and told me that there was nothing they could do, even though I had told them that this money has effectively been stolen from me. It appears CreditMaze have somehow got my card details and charged me legitimately?

I posted a signed for letter on Wednesday asking for a refund and to stop whatever is going on immediately and have had no response so far. My next step is to contact Action Fraud (Police), Watchdog, and raise a formal complaint against my bank through the Financial Ombudsman

I dug around and Credit Maze is owned by a company called Click4Profit Ltd. and have offices located in London, Birmingham and Bournemouth.

  • HI,

I have had experience of this company on Wednesday of this week.

What it appears they do is give you the idea that you are applying for a payday loan but you are not. You are just paying them £67. What they are doing is immoral and unscrupulous, if not illegal. They have a 0844 number ,conveniently, which they take their time picking up. Please note that there is another company that does this too called loanwizarduk.com.

However whilst loan wizard kindly sent me an email of the £68 they were taking from me without real consent, creditmaze did not even do this!

I truely sympathise with you in your dealing with these predatory companies.

I got through to credit maze on their expensive 0844 number. I calculated that the several pounds call cost was the less of the two evils in order to get my £68 back that they fleeced from me. They state that I had to send a letter to their address: Credit Maze, Cornwall Buildings, 45 Newhall Street, Birmingham,
    Postcode B3 3QR

They stated on the phone that I had to write a letter to them with my phone number, name and reason for requesting a refund. I was told that the whole process could take at least a month to go through - time for sending letter, 10 business days to deal with, and if they give you the cash they stole from you back, yet more days waiting for BACS clearence back to your account.

These companies are awful, they give you the impression that you are applying for a payday loan, and that the details you are inputting are for the payday loan company in question in order to progress your application. Then you get the sting when you realise that these scoundrels have just taken £69 from your bank account and there is no loan, just a plethra of even more comapanies within their membership on their site that will do the same again!

These companies, what they are doing to potentially vulnerable people, is shameful.

Please let me know how you get along, and let me know if I can help you with any questions.

  • Whether there is a case for fraud or the financial ombudsman I am not sure. I think they could make the case at the margins that what they are doing is legal. I definitely think that your case for getting your money back is 99% strong. Its just it may take some time and inconvenience through the process. I believe in Karma and I hope these companies get their comeuppance as what they are doing is just wrong!
