International boundaries

Two men in their 20's, quite friendly, came to our door stating that they were selling books for children as part of a fund raiser. They explained that they would receive a trip to Europe if they sold the most books. They did not tell us the prices of the books, but instead wrote us receipts (they insisted on two, and tried to pull cash as well) and we signed two checks for a total of $257. They told us someone would call and offer us the opportunity to cancel our orders, but after they left and we were able to think clearly (they talk constantly, trying to keep you from reading the fine print), we realized they were probably scammers. We cancelled both the check.
