I also along with many others have been caught up in this fraud. I answered to a pop up ad for two free sample of skin care. I paid the postage of 3.97 on 1/23/14. as agreed. Then 99.00 on 2/4/14. and then smaller amounts of .03 0.79
and on 2/26/14 another 105.00. Unfortunately there is nothing my bank can do for me. Since check card transactions are equivalent to paying someone in cash, only merchants can reverse check card transactions. the only way to prevent future transactions from a merchant is to close your card. This is to me an unfair practice. It is okay for a bank to release your funds, but unable to stop payment without having to charge a 35.00 fee and along with the aggravation of getting the merchants name dispute the charges , get written permission from the merchant and needs to be faxed to the bank on their letter head, signed by their manager stating that they do not intend to clear authorization. After all this than they will determine through investigation to credit my account with the returned funds. As consumers, what happened to false advertising why not go after the merchants and force them to return monies that was stolen from our accounts.
