After viewing a recent coverage by Dr. Oz recommending the Pure Garcinia Cambogia product for weight management, I noticed an opportunity to receive a free bottle of the product to try out. I only had to pay $4.95 in shipping. I signed up for the product, denied any interest in the Green Coffee Beans - a difficult page to bypass - and gave my credit card to cover the shipping costs. This was done on 12/6/13. I received the package today, 12/11/13. When I looked at the bottle, having done some research on the product since submitting the order, I noticed that it was distributed out of the Bahamas. Moreover, the ingredients did not meet the specifications that medical experts are indicating are necessary for effective use. I pulled out the shipping notice and it was only then that I realized I was part of a 14-day trial. If I didn't call them to cancel they would assume I liked the product and I did not have to do anything. No mention of an amount for future products or any costs associated with the product. The next line told me to contact customer service if I did not believe the system was for me. I immediately picked up the phone to call customer service. When asked the reason for the return, I claimed false advertising, does not meet the minimum specifications, and distributed from outside of the U.S. and offered to provide more reasons. Then he told me I needed to listen to his spiel before he would give me the RAM number to return the product. I could pay $44.99 - a special half price offer to keep the bottle. I said No. I could pay $22.50 - an even more special price to keep the bottle. I said No. I want to return the item. Then he gave me the RAM number... but indicated I had to pay shipping to return something that I had just paid shipping on to receive only to find out the product was bogus. I told him that I never realized that this was a "trial" in the sense that I had a continuing obligation, let along did I know that I would have to take a proactive action to end further billings/shipments. He said most people are "stupid" and they don't read the fine print on agreements. I argued the reasonable person standard and said most people would not read the fine print. Then I indicated that most people don't look at shipping slips and would never realize that they had to take any action. Again, people are "stupid." But he wasn't implying that I was stupid. I indicated that people were not stupid. Manufacturers take advantage of people unfairly and then fall back on the "it was in writing. you should have read it." That is the injustice of this whole process and the egregious, unethical practices of The Shore Group. I will pay shipping for the item to be sent back. I better not see any further charges or I will go to the Attorney General about this. Moreover, I will let Dr. Oz know that this group is tapping on to his promotion as if he is endorsing it. They need to be exposed for the unethical practices in which they are involved.
