Yellow Local Directory is an online yellow pages scam apparently being run out of Montreal, Canada. The company lists several U.S. addresses in Nevada and New York, but all are just virtual offices. They cold call and either represent themselves to be AT&T, or rush over details of who they are and claim they just need to verify your information, which they record. They then take a portion of the recording, or edit the recording and make it seem that you are agreeing to advertise with Yellow Local Directory. You will begin getting phone calls demanding a credit card # to pay your bill of over $600.00. They will then claim to have turned the debt over to a collection agency CC Recovery, which is obviously part of the scam. You'll receive a demand for payment from them. and the amount will then be over $800.00. If you try to resolve, the only thing they will offer as proof is to play the bogus recording, and then threaten to ruin your credit for 7 years. They will not provide any information about YLD or provide documentation.
As of 10/4/11 YLD has over 600 complaints on the BBB sight, with an F rating. A simple google search of Yellow Local Directory or CC Recovery will bring up pages of people who have been scammed. Anyone experiencing problems with these people should file complaints with the BBB, FTC, ic3 (FBI internet fraud site), their state Attorney General and local law enforcement. They should also write state and federal government officials demanding that foreign companies be prevented from running scams like this.
