On July 25, 2012 a Jasman Pertz (sp?)from yellowuspages.com contacted me by phone offering 2 months free listing with their on line yellow pages service, after which, if I approved, by not canceling, I would be committed to another 10 months of service. I was told I could cancel anytime during the first 2 months if I was not satisfied. I noted a phone number and date for cancelation and agreed verbally to the contract. I also specifically requested a written copy of the contract to be mailed to my business. I stated that we have a policy that we do not agree to any contracts without a written document outlining terms and conditions etc.
On or about September 17 I called and canceled the service because after looking at their website I concluded that it did not seem user friendly. I never accessed the site to make changes to the simple listing that they had done which was just a name and address with no further information. I had not received the written copy of the contract that I had requested.
Early In January (my memory is not clear on this) I received a call from a woman demanding payment for the advertising. I told her I had not received any contract or billing from her company. I had mostly forgotten the details by this time and thought it might be a scam because she asked for credit card numbers or bank account information so they could bill my credit card account. That made me suspicious so I asked her to send me the details by mail so I could verify it. I do remember the conversation as she was very demanding and did not sound legit. We received no billing from them after our conversation.
Later in the month (January) my husband, who actually handles all the finances for the business, received a repeat call. He told her he didn’t know what she was talking about and repeated a request for documentation. We still received no documentation.
On February 7, I received a third call from Jenna Young who said she was from collections for YellowUSPages. By this time I had researched the company and identified who they were. I asked where the written contract and bill was that we had asked for. She had me listen to a recording of my agreeing to the contract. We still had no bills or any other paperwork from them. I asked why they had not documented that I had canceled the service. She claimed that we had been billed monthly. I was quite puzzled as I generally pick up the mail myself and I and never seen anything from YellowUSPages. I asked her what time of month they sent their bills and she indicated the 26th or 27th of the month. I then went into my recycling paper collection and searched back thru all the mail back to April of 2012 and found nothing. The recycling is a pretty good archeological record of all the mail we receive since we recycle all paper. Then I had to put everything back in the bags so I handled it twice. I would think if they really sent anything I would have been able to find at least part of it! I spoke with Jenna Young again and we ended up in a shouting match because she would not stop talking and had gone into her hyper-drive collections spiel. I terminated the conversation.
On February 8 we finally received a bill from YellowUSPages by mail. I did not recognize the envelope or stationary nor did my husband. They are now asking for interest and “Administration” fees. A total of $905.38.
If I had a contract with them and they could not produce it in writing I why should I believe that they had no record of my canceling the agreement? Or for that matter that they had sent anything in the way of a bill until the account was delinquent?
When I searched on line I found numerous complaints against YellowUSPages on several sites In addition I looked at a service that shows how much traffic a site has and they indicated “negligible traffic”
I also contacted the local businesses on the same page as mine. Of 6 total businesses 4 were out of business and the other stated emphatically that she had no contract with them and had never paid them anything.
On about February 13 I filed a complaint with the State of Oregon Consumer Fraud division. They acknowledged receipt of this complaint on February 20th by email.
March 21, 2013 spoke with Jenna Young from YellowUSPages (she called me) She claims that the initial contact was made on September 25 so how could I have canceled on the 17th? She denies that a request from a customer for written contract information is valid as the contract was “not over $1000.” I looked again at the one bill I received from them. On February 15 by 1st class US postal service. On the back it says “Order Cancellation (a) After an order is accepted, Customer may only cancel the Order by providing YellowUSPages.com a written notice no longer than thirty (30) days from receiving their invoice. “I was told when I made the verbal agreement to call 866-398-3612 to cancel the agreement. So which is it?
