Summary:

Your bill is considered due as of the BEGINNING of your two-month trial period. The invoice you eventually receive doesn’t indicate that you’ve already gone to collections. The Terms and Conditions listed on the back of the invoice regarding cancellation are not honored.

Details:

My trial period started in July. My first invoice was dated 9/16, but postmarked 10/2. I received it on 10/4 and sent an email to [email protected], as listed on my invoice, with a cancellation request that day. Receiving no response, I sent a paper-mail followup on 10/10. Receiving no response from that either, I finally called on 10/30 and was only then informed that my account was in collections.

The invoice itself listed no due date, and had no indication that I was already considered to be two and a half months overdue. The fine print on the back says I have 30 days from the invoice date to pay if no other due date is indicated. Granted, I was past that by this point, but I had been trying to contact them well before.

I wanted to cancel my account after the free trial. The Terms and Conditions on the back of my invoice state that “a Customer may only cancel the Order by providing YellowUSPages.com a written notice no longer then[sic] thirty (30) days from receiving their invoice.” As I mentioned, I sent written notice via email the same day that I received my invoice, and had no response, even to my question as to whether email was considered “written notice.” My written notice on physical paper was also ignored.

I eventually spoke on the phone with Joanne (no last name given) in the collections department, and she ignored my repeated request to explain to me why that line in the Terms did not apply. She didn’t answer, didn’t admit she didn’t know the answer, and didn’t direct me to someone who could answer it. She simply kept repeating that we had to pay, and then hung up on me. Further calls to customer service only transferred me back to her, so I was unable to get any further.
