Scott Gonzales advertised on Craigslist for a 1 bedroom condominium in Waikiki, Hawaii. He asked for a wire transfer in the amount of $660 to "hold" the reservation, which I sent to him. He then asked for the remaining amount of the rental--approximately $400, to "pay for renovations" in the apartment. I did not send him this, and told him that according to our contract, the balance was not due until I arrived at the property. We have not heard from him since, and we are now left without lodging for our vacation with our 2 little girls in two weeks. He is obviously a well-seasoned scam artist, as he provided me with two "references" of past renters--obviously fake as well. We will be pursing legal action with our local police department as well as the FBI.
