I applied for a credit card online and received it in the mail today (9/8/2011) with a $300 credit. I dialed 1-800-678-7820 to activate it. A machine answered and i was asked to verify my ssn and to press a number to speak to a rep. i then became suspicous because every credit card that i've activated i have never spoken to an actual person. A female with a spanish accent answered and asked me to verify my last 4 digits of my ssn and my address and i did. she became chatty about the weather etc. and asked to verify my ssn again. by then i decided something wasn't quite right. i'm concerned that my ssn and address about giving out the information. i also called the customer service #1-800-955-7070. again they asked for the last 4 digits of my ssn it sounded like the same person that i spoke to earlier while trying to activate the card. i told her that i decided not to activate the card and that i had changed my mind. She started to stutter and i ended the call by hanging up. Went on their website. icons kept moving around and I could not get thru without putting in my ssn. Please advise. Thank you

  • Actually that is how several credit card companies do it now. They try and sell you credit protection and credit monitoring services. I think the services are worthless but it is legit to speak to a real person these days
