My wife called me from a pay phone at the airport to tell me she had landed. The call couldn't have been more than 20 seconds. They charged $20.34. I called the number on my statement (888.476.0881) to complain about the rate. The "customer service" rep that answered literally told me that it was "too bad", since they offer a rate quote as option #3 when placing a call. (Option #1 is "Place a call" - option #3 is never heard.) I understand that they claim all the overhead costs of "operator assisted" calls contribute to the ridiculous fee, but this translates to a rate of $3661.20 per hour. Despite the fact that the only operator involved was a computer that manages the automated system, if they have that kind of overhead, then perhaps they should reconsider their business model. This is nothing beyond taking advantage of a person in a situation where they have no option but to use their service.
