I periodically order a copy of my credit report from myfico.com and try to keep a watchful eye on my information. In May 2012 I ordered a copy and somehow inadvertently signed up for freecreditreport.com membership with a recurring monthly charge. I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't keep a closer eye on my checking account:( Now, here it is October and I discover that I was charged $30-something in May, then a recurring $17.95 June, July, Aug, Sept and Oct. I had no idea what the charge was for when I discovered it so I called the bank and they immediately said "looks like you've been taken by freecreditreport.com, they run a very deceptive business." The bank gave me the toll free number to FreeCreditReport because she said they make it very difficult to find it on their website. I called and got a young man who super-politely told me that they would refund one month but that's all because I had logged in to their site twice and used the service. What actually happened is that I received emails from them saying "your credit report is ready to view" in which I clicked the link and entered the site looking for my credit report! Anyway, please be careful with this company. There is information all over the net about them--very deceptive, sneaky, unethical, shady business.
