I made ten phone calls from the lobby of my hotel in Kitchener-Waterloo, the calls lasting approximately 5 minutes each, and the bill on my credit card amounted to approximately $220. I phoned WiMacTel to complain and found myself in an absurd negotiation. The rep from the company initially offered a 10% refund. I replied that the bill was still exorbitant, so he offered 20%. I said that this was still ridiculous and half-seriously demanded 50%. He said, 'Okay', so I then said, 'Well, why don't you make it 75%?'. Without hesitation, he said that a 75% discount would be fine.
He then explained that the refund would arrive in the mail! I will believe it when I see it. This company seems like a good, old-fashioned telecommunications scam, like something from the 80s. I'm actually surprised that it is able to get away with these kinds of charges in this day and age, and I suspect it will have cleaned out its offices and disappeared off into the sunset before I see a red cent of my refund. They're giving me 75% back? Ya right.

  • WiMacTel is an operator services provider. Consumers are able to contact us for any issues by calling Customer Service at 888-476-0881, or e-mailing us at [email protected]; this information is posted on our website www.wimactel.com.

Most consumers do not understand and appreciate the expense differences between a direct-dialed call and an operator assisted call; operator assisted calls are more expensive due to the numerous expenses associated with them, such as:

    Validation
    Billing & Collection
    Bad debt
Live operator staffing (amortized over all calls)
Credit card processing fees and compliance requirements
    Customer service center

None of these expenses are associated with coin-paid direct-dial calls placed from a pay telephone or direct-dialed calls placed from a residence or business.

WiMacTel does not post our calling rates on pay telephones due to space limitations. With calls to locations worldwide; automated versus live operator processing; and, various billing methods, there is no room to display all of the resulting rates. To help consumers make an informed decision, WiMacTel does make available the option to obtain a rate quote.

It is WiMacTel’s desire to make certain that every consumer who uses our service is satisfied. To that end, consumers can reach WiMacTel at our customer service number 888-476-0881 or e-mail us at [email protected]; this information is also provided on our website, www.wimactel.com. We are always responsive to consumer inquiries and strive to address and resolve any consumer concerns.

  • Fine don't post all the possible rates. But you can post the per minute charge for using a credit card for a local call. You post the per minute charge for using coins for a local call. Just used one of your phones for a 30 second local call while at the mall to locate my wife cause she had my cell phone. 30 seconds, and the charge was $20.20. I figured since it was $1 a minute for the call using coins, maybe it might be $2-3 for a credit card call. Definately a scam. They say you can call and get a quote, instead of listing the price to cover their butts, and they know that 99% of the people will be like me and not get the price figuring that they could not legally charge such a fee.

If all of your costs add an additional $19.20 for a single call, how come I can buy something at McDonalds for $5 and use a credit card and they are some how able to make a profit off of that and don't need an additional $20 to process the transaction.
