A young woman came to the door to sell magazine subscriptions. She had a small booklet that had some magazines in it and even though the 2 magazines that I wanted WERE NOT in her book, she assured me she could get the proper code when she submitted the order for $56/@. Not only were the costs exorbitant (about $40 TOO HIGH for each), I suspected something just wasn't right when I insisted on paying with a check though they tried to get me to give my credit card info over the phone. I refused providing ANY credit info. After she left, I searched LRUMAR Pub on the web and saw all these scams, so I immediately contacted the bank to cancel both checks AND wrote letters of cancellation and did so the very next day. All well within the 3 business day cancel policy. I saved ALL my paperwork because sure enough, in April 2012, they demanded payment for the check PLUS $30 fee for NSF on the check I stopped payment on earlier. They threatened to contact all 3 credit bureaus if I did not pay.
I am mailing a cease and desist letter today to stop the harassment and referenced and included copies of my cancel letters, cancel paperwork, stop payment check -- on BOTH transactions -- even though they were only contacting me about the one. I assume they are waiting to attempt to collect on the 2nd one and I want to stop it before it starts. I am saving ALL paperwork in the event this goes further. I am prepared to sue them in court if they fail to back off per my formal request to do so. This company should be STOPPED somehow! How about a class action law suit???
