They send out advertisements on craigslist about a new office opening, i applied for a front desk position. Makes sense right? NO. You go in there and Michael Adibe, who owns the one in bethlehem, tells you they are affiliated with direct tv. And " there are incredible growth opportunities with this company." But in all reality they pay you 9 dollars an hour to sell direct tv in best buy. This isnt even the part that was a scam. He doesnt pay you. When you start, he tells you "we pay weekly." What this means is that they pay two weeks behind. So on your third week there, you receive your first week's paycheck. After i had quit, a month had past and i did not receive a pay check. Pennsylvania law states the employer MUST mail the check on their given payday, with other regulations with deducting, of course. But i had no deductions, so i contacted him. " is there a reason i have not been paid?" He told me " your paycheck is sitting here. You can come pick it up or i will mail it." A week later. No paycheck. Finally, it was enough. I went in. There was STACK of paychecks he was going though in his desk. He has only been there since November!

He started to get nervous and said " it must be in my car. . ." So down we went to his car for him to pull out another STACK! He found one of my two paychecks and stopped looking. He said " i dont know where it is, i have to issue another." When i went in the next week, i opened the check. I had set up direct deposit. But it takes two weeks to kick in. This just proves he never issued my second check.

This company is beyond shady. He cashes in former employees checks back into his account after 90 days. He is incredibly illegal. DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY. TRUST ME.

  • Thank you so much for your post!!! I had an interview today (4/12/12) with Michael Adbie and I actually called and cancelled my appointment. I spoke with Brandie a few times on the phone to schedule my interview and following our call she was supposed to send an email with directions to the office and never did. When she called 15 minutes before my. Interview I told her about this and she pretty much stumbled on her words because she didn't know what to say. Then I told her I was going to call anyway to cancel because I had heard negative things about the company/ job. She quickly said okay well I'll cancel your appointment in her cheery, bubbly, annoying voice. From the beginning, I was unsure about this job interview and your post helped confirm my thoughts. The job I applied for wasn't even the job I was contacted about. Thank you again for your post!!

  • Hi this is Micahel Adibe owner of Outerlimnits Marketing Group. Wanted to address this big misunderstanding. I was informed her direct deposit would take place immediately and did not. I am very sorry that there was a delay with her check. That is not how we run business here and everyone receives their paychecks on time. Like most work settings payroll is two weeks behind. So first paycheck does not come till two payperiods later then guaranteed paycheck every Friday from that point moving forward. I think most would agree they would like to get paid weekly as opposed to bi-weekly. It is not in my best interest or my character to run a business with no integrity. We have done a phenomenal job here in this area representing Directv and these big name retailers that have incorporated us in their culture. We create a fun competitive environment where guys are excited about getting promoted. If there is any doubt anyone can tell after sitting down with me, recognizing the awards I have received from these Fortune 500 companies, raving fan emails from these retailers as well as customers, the standard of professionalism and compliance that I preach to my guys everyday, and everyones positive and optimistic outlook on their career that I run a very sound business or I wouldn't have a busniness and the privleage to deal with these high end clients and represent the brand name of directv.

  • I just wanted to comment on this post. I had an interview today and I thought it went very well. Michael Adibe seems to be a very upstanding individual. I do not believe that he purposely tried to scam or take money from the individual that posted the complaint. Actually, her story made absolutely no scense to me at all. Anyway, keep doing what your doing Mike, I am coming on board with your company and I am glad to be apart of your team. Thanks and GodBless..;)

  • There is certainly a honeymoon period for individuals who start to work here; usually the length of training, sometimes less. This organization will put out advertisements under various categories to net in the most possible applicants for interviews (there are monetary incentives for the recruiter based on the number of interviews set); they wont tell you much over the phone because they just want to get you in for that interview and let Mr. Adibe sell you on the business himself.

You will be doing customer service, in a sense. Most of us would prefer that you call it what it is, which is SALES. You will be in retail stores (they will probably tell you this on the phone, if you ask) selling direcTV. The pay is Salary VS Commission, however there are some catches to this. Firstly, the salary is very small; i'm not sure what it is for the office in PA, however in Mr. Adibe's previous office, it was minimum wage (so $290 a week). When they say salary vs commission, however they are only counting 40 hours of hourly pay. You will work MUCH more than 40 hours a week, especially if you are a leader. So you may put in 60+ hours after all the extra requirements, but if you have a rough week and only make "x" number of sales, you will only walk away with $290. Sadly, I've seen this happen...to the assistant manager no less!!

What happens if you dont get enough sales to cover your minimum wage check? Simple. Once you make any amount over the minimum wage in subsequent checks, they take it back from you. If you are enough in the hole, you will be getting minimum wage checks for a while. You dont have to worry too much about this, though, because there is a 99.9% probability they will let you go first.

Scambook has a character limit, so i will have to continue in another comment.

  • You wont be responsible only for your scheduled hours at the retailer you are sent to for the day, you will have to come into the office (you wont technically get paid for this, remember, unless things have changed as a result of threat of legal action) for extra training, etc. AND you will have to call your team leader each and every night to talk about your day. If you are a leader, this means you will be in extra early (to conduct interviews of your own) and you will be on the phone for a few hours after you get off at the store.

While there are plenty of women in the business, it is this business owner's personal opinion that all women = baby drama..they'd prefer to hire men. In all actuality, there was a period where this business what advised not to hire women. As of February it seems they've let this nonsense go and are hiring women again, though i've not seen many women (particularly with children) last long because there is no leniency for issues with ill children or childcare, for the most part (this is not uncommon in business, however the situation is treated poorly by this business owner).

Mr Adibe himself seems nice up front, he may seem nice for a while after that as well. When you've been around long enough, the true colors come out. I hope you like the word "garbage," because by the time you've been around long enough to get in the "inner circle," you will be hearing him use it to refer to applicants (and employees!) he doesnt feel are up to par. I once heard him use the term "garbage" in reference to a vietnam vet who brought his service dog to the interview rather than be on PTSD meds. You should also be prepared to hear a great deal of bragging re: the contents of bank accounts

    To be continued again...

  • All of that being said, there are people (such as Mr. Adibe himself) that do very well int his type of business because they are truly superb salesmen and have no real life outside of work (no kids, no spouse, etc.). This will not be the case with 95% of the population. I know several truly reputable, high class salesmen who wouldnt touch this job with a 100 foot pole. Take from that what you will.

If you do decide to work for this company and quit afterward, make sure you either go back for your paycheck(s), or give written notice (make sure to keep a copy) that you expect your check to be mailed to you. There is a very large stack of checks this business owner keeps because after 90 days, he may deposit the funds back into his business account until you get around to asking for it (which, is usually never).

You may be wondering how i know all of these things. I was Mr. Adibe's admin at his previous office. My personal experience is too long to continue this post, rather than split it up, i will continue with one last comment.

  • People are like possessions to this man. I started out quite happy with my job as i was a full time student, spouse, and mother only looking for a very PT job. I worked only 3 hours a day, which was perfect. After being with the business a while I decided I wanted to take on the recruiting side of the office to double my pay. He realized after that he made a mistake in offering double (even though this added 7+ hours of work to my day) and cut my pay a little, which was OK because i had the opportunity to make up for it in bonuses (these bonuses were much harder to reach than bonuses other admins are awarded, so i was making less for better performance). Then he opened his office in PA, so i was doing the admin work for the first office and the second office (at the same pay, mind you). Not only this, but I was pretty much expected to be on-call for 24 hours a day. I expressed that I needed time for my family and was told to set hours outside of which I could not be contacted. I said that I was unavailable for anything but recruiting (meaning answering applicants phone calls) after 6PM. We set this up because I would be called at 10 or 11 pm and told (not asked) to book airfare for whatever sales person was coming to help the office or for transport to company meetings, or to book car reservations for people who can, frankly, do it themselves. Despite the boundaries set, I was notified that i needed to be on a conference call at 10 pm twice before i quit. I ended up quitting because i didnt want to be involved with these business practices and my family is infinitely more important.

I will be called psycho (another favorite term) for these things and yes, i am obviously disgruntled, however all i have said is the truth. The admin position is also one that works for women who either have spouses in the business, or no rewarding family life; this is not true of all organizational branches, but is true of this one.

    Make an informed decision...

  • Before working for this company, Smart Circle, OR its affilates, you should ask yourself a few simple questions.. How many hours am I willing to work a week? And am I willing to take a 0$$ check or "lost" check after working 80+ hours in one week?? Am I willing to miss birthdays, funerals(SERIOUSLY), holidays and ALL WEEKENDS now and forever? Who and what am I REALLY willing to give up for this "dream." If you are not a single MAN with no children or family or friends or life STAY AWAY its NOT WORTH IT!! Even IF just IF he didn't start out as a lying demoralized con artist he certainly ended up one just like all the rest of them. His BOSS said this to me, right before I finally gave up, "...sorry if your having seizures and you childs been sick so the daycares wont watch her, maybe you should start putting forth some EFFORT and actually start caring about your business. Maybe your just not cut out for this.." Not in those exact words, but you the point. AND this is after 80+ hours a week for months and months and months EVERY SINGLE DAY. AND YES I did put my child in daycare from 8 am to 830pm mon tues wed thurs fri and sat, AND had to have my dad... MY ONLY FAMILY HERE watch her EVERY SUNDAY because you really dp WORK 80+ hours a WEEK, and EVERYDAY!! Mr. Adibe's motivational words to me were "You just gonna quit on Kenna?(my 2 yr old)Can you really look her in the face in the morning and tell her you didn't try?" WOW. AND they are so cheap... WARNING do not go on road trips... NOT WORTH IT. Is your wife or husband ok with you staying in a different city for a week at a time? They will put you on the cheapest side of town in the cheapest hotel they can find. (One of our girls litterally got robbed at her hotel there is a police report and everything) and thats when they will even pay for one. They made TWO men I didn't know stay at my house with just myself and my 2 yr old! He even got into 3 fights (that I know of) FIST FIGHTS in his OFFICE! With employees! contd

  • THESE ARE JUST A FEW EXAMPLES!! They will wave hopes and dreams in your face just to make you work harder! Just because I picked up my daughter at 830 pm everynight did not mean I was off work! THEN you talk to EVERYBODY under you and it can take hours!! AND then after that your expected to "NETWORK," because there is always someone better than you! Oh and you better be ready to be made fun of in front of a group of people, cause he will say things like, "are you stupid??" in front of EVERYBODY. And you do all of this, because you need to be an ENTREPRENEUR after all. These are all things ENTREPRENEURS do! Don't you want to be just like this Mike guy?? LOL. Follow in HIS footsteps, cause thats a goooood idea LOL. I could go on and on, but let's end this. If you STILL plan on moving forward with this company, OR if you STILL plan on going to the interview, ASK MR. MIKE ADIBE a few questions yourself in person!! How does "clawback" really work? How many days will I get off a week? (get this on paper.) How many hours will I actually work in one week? What if I need a day off, for personal reasons? OOOOh, And What REALLY happens when I become owner?? (what will I really have to pay for as owner so on and so forth...) And if you stillllll want to continue on with this company, after talking to him in PERSON, HA GOOD LUCK AT A MILLION DOLLARS HA!! YOU HAVE THE SAME CHANCES TO WIN THE LOTTERY AND YOU DONT HAVE TO GIVE UP AS MUCH!!

    -Signed,
Clearly Disgruntled and Taken Advantage Of, the one and only JESSIE TURNER!!

  • I joined this place as a person who was trying to make some extra money during the Summer. I was told that I'd be getting paid a certain amount for my work with this company. I was very excited, for the salary being given to me was exceptional. WRONG. This pay system is based on commission 100%. There is no hourly pay. The pay system is so messed up and the employee doesn't even know what he/she is dealing with. When applying for a position here, be weary. Ask about the clawback system, how many hours you will be working, what you will "owe back", etc. This website really helped me with quitting my job, because I had been told different things about this company/man before as well. I worked every day, never took a break. Worked more than 50 hours, and pay check was measly. You approach them about the situation, and they become defensive. I definitely wanted to invoke legal action against this company for their wrongdoing with my check and pay. Please, if you want to make money, do it some place else. You will be slaving for the time you are here, and you will get nothing more than a minimum wage check. Don't fall for the traps! Sincerely, a concerned friend.
