Platinum Realty called and claimed to sell my Florida timeshare for $38500 to a Mexican party. They claimed the buyer selected American Title Escrow to process the deal. I was required to pay $3000 (about) for transfer fees which were to be reimbursed by the buyer. Then a call came from Platinum with the sad story that they lost $60,000 in commissions because people didn't pay them. They were now requiring their commissions to be paid into the escrow acct through American Title. Then after they claimed the closing had taken place, an email from their "accounting dept" arrived claiming Mexico was requiring taxes to be paid to the tune of $6000. This is for American property! A red flag I should have heeded was that everyone involved had Mexican accents even though they had names like "Brian Jones" and worked in Chicago.
A local TV show stated that any time someone asks for a wire transfer, it is a scam. Wish I had seen that a month ago...
