On January 3rd, 2017 I took a survey from an advertisement (with an Amazon purchase I believe). The "reward" was a pick of simple jewelry and a handbag for $5.95 each shipping only. I thought "this will make my wife happy!" A nice surprise for her at 74 years old.
We got the non-descript products a week or so later. We thought "Cheap items, but worth the $5.95 anyway".
Today I discovered they billed my credit card for both items each at $5.95 on January 3rd as expected. BUT THEN they charged $89.99 and $98 on Jan. 18, 2017. I called them. They said "you agreed to examine the products for 14 days, and if you did not cancel you would be charged the retail costs and also would be billed the same for a product each month until you cancel!
He showed me in the fine print what I supposedly knowingly agreed to.
He said, by written agreement he could not refund anything! But he would send 2 vouchers for restaurants etc as a compensation.
I said "Cancel this recurring charge immediately". He did, but did not give me confirmation numbers. I had to call back to get them.
I contacted my Credit card company and created a "product dispute". They kindly reimbursed me and said "if our complaint doesn't hold with that company
we will have to recharge your account."
So, hopefully the company will cough up the bogus charges to the Credit Card company.
Whew! What a waste of time...3 hours on the phone etc. I promise to take NO MORE SURVEYS for a reward!
