on Friday morning(Feb26) while I was using my laptop,a pop-up appeared on my screen,warning me that my computer was infected with virus and that I should not use my computer for any online shopping etc. The voice kept on repeating the warning and would not go away from my screen. At the bottom of the page it carried a telephone number-1877 752 6508, for me contact. I rang the number and was answered by a female. She suggested that I give the control of my computer to them to look into the problem.I asked her to remove the pop-up from screen but she said it cannot be done.After unsuccessfully trying to get rid of the pop-up,I rang them again and handed over the control of my computer to them. She checked and said my computer had virus.She said it will cost me $199.99(US) for the service. I had no option but to agree and pay up. She then referred to a technician who worked on my computer for couple of hours.Later it made to wonder how this people come to know that my computer had virus.About 1 pm they rang me to find out how my computer was working.There was no noticeable difference . I asked him to explain how did they know about the virus in my computer.He denied any knowledge.I insisted on him to explain how there ph.no.appeared on the warning notice.He denied that the number was theirs. I rang the number again and another person answered.He confirmed that the ph.no.was theirs.I then had a long argument and asked them to refund my money in full. In the beginning I was led to believe that it was a US company.After a long talk the manager said hen will refund the money but after I replied to his email to me.I am still waiting for the email.
