Inna and her interpreter claimed she had lost an earring, a family heirloom as we sat for lunch at a cafe in Kharkov. Fiddling with her ear she appeared to be upset and then said she had lost an earring (said through her interpreter).

WE looked all around the room, the path out to her car and on the street, and she supposedly looked in her car. Her interpreter said if it was on the sidewalk someone could have easily walked away with it, but the sidewalk had a lot of small debris which would have obscured or made it so a small earing was not readily visible.

So then her interpreter said< something about her being 'so sad' and that maybe I could do something ot help her (i.e. buy her jewelry in replacement of this 'family heirloom'.

Although the interpreter said she ahd never been to this jewelry store, Inna swooped down on this small ring like an eagle descending onto pre-selected prey, a black and white diamond studded ring, which I think was listed at 1700.

I had never seen things in Ukraine listed in dollars so when I asked the price the clerk said it was 1700 which I thought was in UAH Ukrainian currency. However, being a bit of a astute person and sometimes cheapskate, I declined, saying it was too much.

Then Inna jumped over a foot or two in the display case to an identical theme and pattern of earrings with black and white diamonds (it would have been a matching set for the ring) and asked about getting it.

It seemed more appropriate to replace a lost earring, and I asked for the price. The lady working at the store had a big calculator whose screen did not face out so you could see the price or calculations.

he said she would discount it and then came up with the figure 1300 which she showed me by turning the screen around. I reluctantly said Yes, hoping it would serve the purpose for which Inna supposedly wanted it-to replace a lost earring (set) since one earring does not make a whole set.

Well, in hind sight fortunately, my credit card would not run (I think I had a per purchase limit) so we left that store and went to another. I should also mention that this lady's interpreter, maybe sincerely, (I don't know) encouraged me to just buy the ring or earrings like it was a gift of heart and I wasn't supposed to be concerned about the price...

the interpreter also stood directly between me and the clerk with her calculator, as she planted herself there to discourage going and looking at the calculator or talking to the clerk. It was obviously a set-up looking back on it.

IN any event, still thinking the prices were in UAH, I bought this earring for her that looked for all the world like the ones she lost even though hers were supposed to 'gifts from her MOM' i.e. heirlooms and the earrings bought were brand new and for sale in 2015.

I'm reasonably sure this was a set-up, a scam operation to try to prick my sympathy and get me to buy some expensive jewelry, a plan practiced by Inna and her interpreter.

I want to get the cost of the earring back, $370, returned. It cost $370 which I want to get back to recover those damages.
