I purchased my Volvo Penta 5.7 marine engine (71798)from US Engine originally on March 4, 2013. The engine was shipped to my installer and installed in my 2009 Monterey boat. I took my boat out on April 18, 2013 and drove slow as I was instructed to do. I took it out again on June 6, 2013 and heard a knocking noise coming from the engine compartment. I took it back to the installer and told them the issue. When they inspected the boat, they found that my carb had fuel washed the engine and basically ruined the pistons. I called US Engine and was told to ship it back so that the warranty repairs could be done. Once they received it, I was told that the issue would not be covered under any warranty and that the engine would need to be completely rebuilt. I asked how much that would be and was told for $1800 they could rebuild the engine and replace the carb and the distributor was bad also. The $1800 would fix all of that and they would get my engine shipped back to me. I paid the $1800 and on March 21, 2014 my engine was shipped back to me. When the engine arrived at the installer, shipment was refused because the crate was damaged in shipping. The engine went back to US Engine who filed a claim against FEDEX and was paid on the claim due to the truck being involved in an accident. I was told the damages were repaired and that the engine would again be shipped out to the installer. On May 21, 2014, my engine was again shipped. When it arrived at the installation shop, the owner looked at the crate and said that it was the same as the original one! On the FEDEX bill of Lading it was noted acceptable upon inspection. I contact Mike Anderson at US Engine and told him of the situation and that the engine looked exactly the same in the box as it had when it was shipped the first time. He told me that again they would file a claim with FEDEX for damages. When I called to check the status of the claim, Mike told me that he hadn't filed it yet. I took it upon myself to start the filing process. FEDEX has no record of the shipment being damaged a second time, I still have an engine that doesn't work and US Engine has my money plus the FEDEX claim!!
