Received a letter in the mail along with a check which looked legit for the amount of $2,837.00. The letter said that I was the winner of a "consumer promotion draw" and that this check was partial pay of the $50,000.00 cash prize. Also, that from the $2,837 I was to pay a "tax clearance fee" of $980.
Prior to depositing the check I called the number that was provided in the letter (888) 908-1003 and Paul Anderson (most likely a fake name) said " I advise you to deposit the check and call back on Monday". Stupidly, I did deposit the check on a Saturday and come to find out today, on Monday that this company is a scam and they send you a check which looks legit, so that when you deposit it somehow they will gain access to your personal account and the check will eventually bounce. So I contacted the bank right away and asked that all transactions be blocked and a new account number be issued.
My question is, after so many complaints about these fraudulent people WHY HAS THERE BEEN NOTHING DONE ABOUT THIS?
It blows my mind how easy it is for these people to get away with fraud! Come on there must be a way of tracking down the number or something.
