The EXACT same thing happened to me; I 'won' an iPod Shuffle for $3.00 after completing an online survey that popped up after visiting a website I frequent; the questions had to do with the website, so I figured it was legit; WRONG... I too was charged the 3.00 PLUS 49.99 for a "Gold Membership" that I did not agree to; This is the first email I sent them...
"I completed an online survey for an amateur radio website I frequent… told me I got an ipod shuffle for 3.00… started completing the paperwork for it and quit when it looked suspicious to me… There are two charges on my Mastercard ending in xxxx that I respectfully request you refund to me. The first is the 3.00 charge for the ipod I “won” dated 1 Jan 2014; the second is 49.99 dated 3 Jan 14 for something I have no idea what it is, for a total of 52.99; It is 2:30pm local time here in northern Ontario; I tried calling the phone number listed for you on my credit card statement and I got voicemail stating your business hours are 7am to 3 pm GMT… why would a company located in Ontario/Quebec (it says QC next to the charge on my credit card bill however the 613 area code is for Ontario) set their clocks according to Greenwich Mean Time, which (at this time of the year) is 5 hours behind the local time in Ontario/Quebec, except maybe to avoid answering the phone?

Being employed in the computer industry, I am usually very diligent when it comes to matters like this, but this time I feel duped…

Again, I respectfully request the amount of 52.99 be refunded to my Mastercard with an account number ending in xxxx.

Thank You

Be advised I am sending this email to the RCMP fraud reporting centre as well.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter"

The email I JUST received from them says "You have been unsubscribed. Please be informed that you will not be subscribed for the membership next month. However, you need to complete this month's subscription as you have used the bids on your account. Since you have used the membership benefits, we will not be able to return the membership fees for the first month. Membership fees cannot be refunded if the membership benefits have been used."
I DID NOT USE NOR BID ON ANYTHING...
It is a REAL shame companies are allowed to get away with things like this...
