I paid for AppleCare support for my iMac. I called an Apple phone number for help. I will never understand how I was transferred to a MYTECHHELP Tech Rep. I thought I was talking to AppleCare. I explained my problem. He said he couldn't help me unless I paid for MyTechHelp. I asked why I needed to do that if I had paid for AppleCare. He said that covered only hardware. I was in panic because I thought I had been hacked for my credit card info and passwords. I gave him my credit card number and was charged $250 (with $50 rebate in 16 weeks). He took over my computer and took forever to find a fix. It turned out to be a simple restart. In the process he said I had to buy a virus software package so he could do a virus check. I had to give him my credit card number for TECHZILLA antivirus software. He said he would send me a "redemption" e-mail to remove this charge. Later, after a LOT of nasty conversation with MYTECHHELP customer service, they agreed to refund the TECHZILLA charge but not the $199.99 MYTECHHELP charge. I said I wanted to cancel the service. They said OK, but I would still have to pay the $199.99. I received an HDMI cable from Techzilla and returned it unopened. MYTECHHELP rep said they would review my telephone conversation with the tech rep. If they find that I told him I had AppleCare Protection Plan, they would refund my $199.99. I am not asking for Scambook help in this case. I will not pay the MYTECHHELP credit card charge. I will do whatever is necessary to launch a credit card dispute. These people are scams.

  • This is almost exactly what happened to us. We waited for our $50 "Gift Card" and finally I called in. I was told we could wait until almost Christmas to get the gift card OR we could right then and there get $200 in valuable coupons for businesses and restaurants. We asked what restaurants. Red Lobster was one they named and Macy's and Best Buy were a couple stores they named. So we said sure. We got an email with a place to log in to get our coupon. First of all there were 4 restaurants, 3 of which I never heard of. The other was Texas Steakhouse and the closest one to us was 3 1/2 hours away. Next I started looking at the businesses. The coupons for Best Buy were 10% discount coupons for purchase of any phone. You had to pay $5 out of our $200 to get the 10% off. All the business coupons were like that. So I called back in and royally chewed some butt. By that time I was pretty sure this was a scam. I demanded that that phony $200 be taken back and our gift card mailed immediately. They said there was a disclosure when we agreed to do it that where they asked if we agreed to not get the card. I said, yes, but I said IF Red Lobster and places in our area are in the coupons. I called in 4 times, was on hold for no less then 15 minutes each time. I demanded to speak to a supervisor and was told they were in a meeting. Then I called back later and they were going to "review the audio tape" of the agreement conversation. I then said I was going to the Better Business Bureau. We called our bank to try to block any more charges from them and was told we couldn't but that we had a credit for $299.99 that just came in. That is what we originally paid. So we did get that back. The other day we got a $50 check in the mail from them. We have not cashed it and are afraid to do so. Does anyone know, can they still get into our computer?

  • I had a similar situation referring to pretending to be apple care. i believe it was around $160.00 i had lost to my tech help. Have your bank handle all the negotiations from this point on. Don't even attempt to speak to a managers, they are all in on the scam. Just let your bank resolve it. They probably will not try to get into your computer since all they wanted was your money and they got that but i would take your computer to a reputable place, such as where you purchased it, and have them take a look at it. Good luck!
