A Yellow US Pages representative contacted our small business and initiated a contract through discussion with unauthorized personnel (though the associate identified himself as "authorized" thinking he was dealing with Yellow Pages, who we had already been in discussion with concerning advertising). I would have to listen to the recording again to determine if the Yellow US representative identified the company as being unrelated to Yellow Pages. The account was set up under a business name that is neither our legal company name nor our dba name. After listening to the playback of the phone conversation in which the agreement was made, it was clear that there had been a previous conversation with a sales person (which, of course, was not recorded). During the "contract" conversation, there was no mention of a cancellation fee, should the account be closed after the trial period ended. After speaking with the Yellow US collections agent, I discovered that the cancellation fee is over $500. It is $720 for the year's service, so a complete waste of money to pay the cancellation fee. In order to keep the account From accruing interest or going to collections, the collections agent would accept a payment on the account of no less than $200 by phone, which would halt the accrual of interest on the account. I was given the option to mail in my payment in a lesser amount, but continue to accrue interest. I requested a transcribed copy of the "contract" telephone conversation, but was told that it was the property of Yellow US and they would not provide a copy to me. The collections agent faxed a copy of our "overdue" bill, front side only. I requested that she fax the back side as well, as this is Where the fine print is usually found, but was told that she could not do that. We received one bill from Yellow US, which was immediately discarded because the owner identified it as a scam and wanted no part of it, not realizing that Yellow US deemed us already under contract. The "TOP 10 Program" implies that it will raise our ranking in web search results to the top 10 results, but our listing through Yellow US Pages cannot be found at all without specifically searching the yellowuspages.com website. The entire situation was handled in bad faith on their part.
