I purchase an international ticket through cheapoair, once I received my itinerary I realized the ticket showed one piece 50lbs allowed free. I called the and them and agent assured me I will be allowed 2 pieces since Emirates allows two 50lbs pieces free for the economy class. I also called US airways and they also say if the agent assured me I will be allowed two pieces. I called them back to ask why the ticket still showed one piece the agent said no you will be allowed to based on the MSC(Most significant carrier) which in this case is Emirates. When I got to the airport I was charged $500 for for pieces we had between me and my husband. They told us one piece was free and we had to pay $100 each for second bag. And since we thought we will be charged based on Emirates baggage fees we carried extra 20lbs for the second bag. So the second for each was total 70lbs. So we knew we had to pay extra but only $ 100 as Emirates extra baggage fees showed. We now in Africa and going back this week we are being asked to pay $350 more for the 2 second pieces. So total $850, unexpectedly and after I called and alert them that that's not how I wanted my ticket. I even told the agent if that's the case then I would purchase the domestic connection separate. And he assured me no I would not have to do that. I think this and all other complains should be sent to IATA.

  • In order to address your concern about the luggage, we need you to forward your 8 digit booking number to [email protected]. We have posted on our website baggage links for your own verification, as well as going to the individual airlines websites for the most upto date details regarding baggage fees. It appears the extra charges are due to you adding additional 20lbs to your bags. Even though you are allowed so many free ones, the weight over rides any "free" bag policy. So you had extra weight fees, and extra bags. All these prices are based on the airline, not CheapOair, and as a customer you are obligated to also verify the rules of the airline before departure so there are no unexpected circumstances at the airport. We are very sorry for the inconvenience, but we are not obligated to pay for any additional cost regarding excessive bags.
