I had a problem with my mac and thought I was calling Apple. At no point was I told it was not Apple, I was sold a $99.99 fee for useless help, then was upsold a virus program that I NEEDED to have as the problems I was having seemed to be related to viruses (they were not) -- but I was assured not to worry as I was receiving a $50 rebate anyhow. As the help was not helpful -- it was not that the technicians were not nice -- they just were not Apple savvy, I was still assured that I had protection for all my electronic products. When I called to redeem my $50 I was told I had to download a form and send it in. One and a half months pass: nothing. No crediting back onto my cc, no check in the mail.

So I called and wanted to find out about the rebate. The woman on the line said that I would not be eligible for that rebate until I had been a "member" for 90 days. Furthermore I was told that what I thought was a one time charge of $99.99 would be recurring after 3 months as I had automatically been opted into a membership program.

Let me assure you that up until this point nobody had ever spoken of a membership enrollment.

To sum up:
1. company disguised itself as Apple
2. upsold me with the assurance that I would get a rebate -- which turned out to be a lie
3. had me opted into a membership I never agreed to
4. when I tried to cancel the membership it was like trying to opt out of a cult: it was intimated that I was not thinking clearly as I was missing out on a great deal -- and the "deals" kept on coming: I was going to get reimbursed for my 3 quarterly payment and was re-charged less for a full year membership. I kept on asking "is this a one time fee" and the woman on the other end kept on saying that she believed so. When I said that was not enough, she assured me. At this point I had been told so many lies that all I wanted was get out, and that is what I did $160 of damages later.
