I purchased a sweater at Macy's (95th & Metcalf, Overland Park, KS) in December, 2012. It was charged to my Macy's account.

In January, 2013 I received my billing in the amount of $16.29. Shortly thereafter, I became ill with flu and did not get the bill paid on time. I paid the bill thru my bill paying service at my bank on March 20, 2013, in the amount of $16.29. I called their office to apologize for the late payment and to explain I had been very ill with both stomach flu and Influenza A and had someone trying to help with getting my bills paid. The Macy's bill did not get paid on it's due date of Feb 7, 2013 - noted on the ONLY bill I have received from them until today. The person on the phone was quite demanding that I pay the amount of $54.87, which was a surprise to me as I had never been billed for that amount. She said that the amount would double every month it was not paid. Also that I would receive a billing for that amount on the 9th of April. I got the billing today and it was for $91.87. This is the only bill I have received since the January billing of $16.29. Because of my heart condition the flu confined me to bed for a long period of time. I am 81 years old and have ALWAYS had a sterling credit record. I am fearful that Macy's will ruin my record. Can you do something about this.
