My husband and I thought we were calling Amazon technical support regarding the image quality of a movie I had just rented because this scam of a company used paid search on Google to be placed at the top of the search results.

The person on the line who I thought was with Amazon then said the quality issue was due to a program I had on my computer called MacKeeper. He said it was malware and would cause my computer hard drive to fail. He told me to search the macforums where I did see threads about it, so I panicked. He said they had a program and technical support that could help remove MacKeeper, and again, I still thought I was talking to Amazon, although I did start to think it was weird that Amazon was offering technical support packages, but what don't they sell?

After foolishly giving this low life my credit card information and being connected with a "tech support person" aka hacker, thief, low life, I finally realized that this wasn't adding up. I asked him when I would receive an email with the info as I wanted to confirm I was dealing with Amazon. He said he was not with Amazon but Techzilla.com which is also apparently part of the scam. At that point I told them I did not want their services and they said I could call Techzilla to cancel my account. Techzilla said they could not find any record of the transaction, but it's just another attempt to get information out of you.

Thankfully the damage in my case was just the $119 and I didn't let them steal all my information on my computer. I immediately called the credit card company and reported the fraud. The closed the account but they will allow the charge to go through since I gave the account number. I don't feel this is fair since I was lied to and defrauded so I suggest you choose American Express over Bank of America for business accounts.
