Verizon sent my account into collections when in fact I already paid off my final bill after canceling my internet service in March of 2011. After filing official disputes and endless correspondence via email, phone calls, certified mail, Verizon acknowledged that they made a mistake in their accounting (per an ePay supervisor) and so recalled my account from collections. They claimed to recall the account in mid January of 2012. However, they then sent the same charge back to collections again a few days later, and I was contacted by the collection agency as if I never went through the whole 2 month dispute process that I already went through. I had to go through the process again to clean up my credit reports. All in all it cost me over $300 in certified mailings and credit monitoring and hundreds of hours over half a year to clean up my credit report. In the end Verizon would not reimburse me for any of their mistakes.
