I Googled for technical support for a Mac book pro. This company came up as "Apple technical support" with the phone 866-447-3184

I called them, asked if they were Apple Support. They responded "yes, we are phone support for Apple." I believed I was talking to Apple. I described my problem, that my computer was not running an online program I needed. I wondered if they could suggest update or download the software I needed. They wanted to access my computer to "see what the problem was".

Next they told me my computer had been infected with several virus, that some of the software had been removed and they could fix it and reinstall the missing software for $159.00. I approved that charge on my American Express. Next they said all computers using the same internet connection could likely be infected. I gave them access to check two more computers. At that point I realized my second and third computers were not Apple, so I questioned them. They again assured they were "Apple Support" but Apple was aware that most customers also had non-Apple computers so they also had a PC technician. They claimed to find a Trojan Horse in my PC, said hackers were in my computer and my computer was about to crash. Total cost to fix around $500.00 in three separate charges which I approved. At that point I saw a small window on the Apple computer from "Teamviewer" (apparently the program which facilitated their access to my computer)stating that "Teamviewer" was only to be used for private individual use,not commercial use. I became suspicious and finally shut down my computer, called Apple ( from a number in the phone book) and learned the company was not Apple. I am in the process of having American Express investigate the charges as fraudulent. Not yet sure if my computers are damaged.
