Got a letter with a check for $3,750 saying I had won $230,000 in a sweepstakes. The letter stated that I had to call them B4 trying to cash the check. Dead giveaway that it was a hoax.
The hitch is that you need to give them $1,850 before they will authorize the $3,750 check to be cashed. (I didn't bother to call but the ruse is obvious)
This is the snail-mail equivalent of that famous internet hoax of some foreign person who needs your help getting money out of their country (usually in Africa).
