Inquired about purchasing a MacBook Air on Craigslist. After sending out several emails to advertised laptops, I received this email from a person calling themselves Jessica Redford:

"Hi, I am getting back to you regarding the 13" MacBook AIR from Craigslist

My name is Jessica and I am now in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
The MacBook is still available and I hope you are still interested.
I am selling the MacBook for US $600. I have attached some pics with it to this email.
It's 1.80 GHZ i7, has 4 GB of RAM, 384 MB of Video Memory and 256 GB SSD (works 5 times faster as a normal HD) of storage.
The MacBook was bought brand new from Apple a couple of months ago.
About the MacBook I can say it's in perfect shape, as I used it only for a few weeks. Included in the $600 price is everything that came with the MacBook and also the warranty papers.
I tried to be as thorough as I could with the presentation so you can have all the info if you decide to go ahead and buy it. So what do you think? Do you want my MacBook?"

After several emails between us, we agreed that she should send the item through a service called InterParcel. I looked up the company and they are a legitimate company. She notified me that she had dropped off the item with InterParcel and they should contact me about the transfer.

I got an email from a person calling themselves Ralph Craddock with instructions on the transfer. I was instructed to send the money through Western Union to an individual named Amanda Duncan in Bolton, UK.

I then wired the money using Western Union ($600 plus a $50 charge for the wire).

I then received an email that the money was received and that the item would arrive FedEx on August 2nd around 1pm EDT.

No other responses to my emails or inquiries has been returned. Today, after long research, I have found where this person(s) has done this same scam over and over on Craigslist.

  • I almost got lured in this because of the legit company Interparcel. Her offer was for a Macbook Pro for $1000 couple months old. Since a local pawnshop was offering one a few years older for same price I thought, why not if someone needs money immediately?
But I learned to search companies and names before completing deals on Craigslist when I came across your misfortune.
Below is last email I received Aug 7th.
Please use it if you try to get your money back with authorities and warn Craigslist scam/complaint dept.
She got you when she said "I will pay for shipping"

    Jessica Shelton <[email protected]>;
    Hi,

I was checking for a way to make the exchange from here to you in the US and I came across this option, which is a very good way to make this exchange.
It's provide by a company called Interparcel and it will help us with this transaction.
They seem designed specifically for internet transactions, they handle both the payment and delivery part of this transaction. They seem pretty nice and trustworthy and they provide a service that we can use for our exchange.
The link below is from Interparcel website and it explains their procedure. Please check the link and the procedure and let me know if you agree to the terms.

    http://www.ship-interparcel.ca/en_language.internet.transactions/third.party.html

With this procedure Interparcel will deliver the macbook to you, receive your payment and I will receive the payment for the macbook only after you instruct them to do so.
    I will pay the shipping.
Let me know if we can proceed.
