Someone claiming to be "Michael Wilson" who had a heavy middle eastern accent began calling my cell phone a few weeks ago. They'd leave a message saying the matter was time sensitive and that if I didn't call them back all they could say was "good luck to me". I never called the number or took the call because the message didn't contain where he was calling for, what type of time sensitive matter it was, or anything else. Today this person called my work (a call center) approximately 10 times in a row. The first time I took the call transferred from another rep. He said he was calling regarding a suit someone has taken out against me regarding a pay day loan. I asked who the loan provider was because I have never taken out a pay day loan. He would not provide me with that information and kept telling me he was transferring me to his lawyer and then placing me on hold and pretending to be a lawyer when he came back from hold (It was obviously the same person and he even slipped up once and repeated the same name he gave me before he got the "attorney" on the phone). I told him that if he was a collector he'd have to tell me by law more information (in most states they have to provide you with the company they're collecting for, dates your debt was incurred, amounts, and their account #). He would not give me any of this. I said also in my state a collector could not a place of employment. He said he wasn't a collector he's an attorney. I said this was harrassment and if he called me again I'd contact the police and then disconnected. He call several other times telling my coworkers different names like Jason or Dave Jones and different things like he was from the attorney generals office, or he was calling from the government about fraud I had committed. When they refused to transfer the call to me the person yelled and swore at them saying I was a criminal and then hung up. I finally googled the number and saw this is happeneing to quite a few people. My HR deparment called the number 3 times and were given 3 different excuses, that they didn't call, that they'd see who called, that they weren't sure what we were talking about and then quickly hung up. Luckily my job understood this was a scam and is blocking the phone number but it was definitely embarassing. They even kept calling my cell phone from a number that came up on my phone as "911 Emergency Services" They need to be stopped. They're posing as governmental departments and authorities. If they're doing this to people whose jobs aren't as understanding, they could lose their jobs over something like this. I'm promptly pulling my credit report to see if someone stole my identity, changing my phone # and not shopping online again, even from a verified secured site. I'm not sure how they got my information, but I am not happy about it.

  • This happened to us too. I have called the Attorney General and files a complaint but nothing has been done. They called me again and I told him I was working with the FBI and they will be caught and I hung up and I have never received a call again from them.
