At first when they called, I thought it was a scam but I asked if it was and he said no. I then asked for their website and I saw that they had one. I told them I worked for the government and my bank is usaa, which is a bank strictly for military. You would think if it was a scam, they'd hang up by now but they didn't. I was convinced they were legitimate. They even gave me the number to call and reconfirm my account info and told me all they needed was $150 for a charity donation to India. The tellers name was Frank Miller. Anyway, I transferred $100 cause that's all I could get out. I called Frank back & told him I sent it. He confirmed it and said he'd call the Federal Reserve Bank in NY City. He said my money would be on my account by 11am the next day. It wasn't, I called back, he said I'd get a call from the bank in 20 mins. They called and I spoke to a Michael Alston from Federal Reserve bank. Thats when he said he needed $450 for a security deposit so I could get my $7000 grant. That's when I knew had been ripped off. Keep a lookout for these numbers:202-499-1468-usagovermentgrants.org and 646-432-0788 (Federal Reserve Bank)

  • I got a call today about the same thing. A Indian gentleman that was hard to understand called from 202 405-4852. He said I qualified for a grant that I didn't have to pay back and asked me to verify a lot of info. So they obviously know who they're calling but once they started asking for banking info I slowed him down. The gov't doesn't give away ANYTHING so I played along just to see how much they had on me. They everything accept my address and banking information. So don't trust this kind of crap or you'll definitely be sorry

  • I just received a call from a 202 number (202-666-9700) some Indian guy, I don't recall his name told me that I was selected to receive a grant in the amount of $8500. I listened to his pitch for a couple of minutes before I asked him for a website. He gave me the following website: www.usgovernmentgrantsnandtreasuredept.org. When the site was invalid, he instructed me to perform a google search for government grants at which point I asked why should I do a Google search for government grants if you have a valid website? The telemarketer became upset with me and I asked him why? Rather than apologizing, he became irritated. So I told him that I didn't trust his call and just hung up. Be careful. As appealing as it sounds to receive free money, you should always ask questions and confirm validity. Most importantly, if anyone that calls you starts asking for personal information over the phone, realize that it is a scam. The US Department of Treasury does not wire funds directly into your account. They will send you a check in the mail that says US Department of Treasury.
