Sterling Lending Group/Calvin Johnson
Complaint 83490 Details

I was applying for a personal loan and a man named Calvin Johnson who says he is with Sterling Lending Group called and said they had approved me for a loan. I provided proof of income and a few days had passed and I thought they didn't approve me. I received a phone call a couple of days after that saying that they had approved me. BUT there were 3 options---Do I have a mortgage? Yes---option #1 out---wouldn't have gone that route for a small personal loan anyway.
#2 get a co-signer--wasn't going to drag anyone else in and #3-send up front funds for an insurance policy. I was very skeptical of this and told him that, and said take it out of the loan proceeds. I had spoken with a couple of other companies that wanted up front money and I said the same thing, take it out of the loan proceeds. Needless to say, I didn't do the other two because the up front insurance was twice as much as this--One actually offered to let me pay half and when I received the loan funds, send the other half immediately.
This one I was stupid enough to think might be legitimate as their loan documents are pretty official looking.
There is also a lady if this is her real name =Becky Burroughs who "works" at Sterling Lending Group. She actually left me a message and I returned her phone call, but of course was unable to reach her.
If anyone is interested in the other "watch our for" names, they are Aviva Financial Services and Arrowhead Loans. I didn't see any complaints for Aviva the last time I looked, but there were several complains about Arrowhead.
