This guy came to my door at 7 pm-ish, I opened the door expecting to see my friend who said she would be right by, and it was this guy instead saying he was in the Navy and returned home Iraq and was in transition and doing a communications project and needed to get people to talk to him. So he told me how he didn't have family and is taking residence in Elizabeth City at the local college and is doing this magazine program and wants to win 1,000 dollars because he needs the money and me being a military wife and generous heart, I helped a brother in need and purchased the final 6 sales he needed to get to be in first place @53.00 a pop from my pocket. He left his wallet and business stuff at my house and used my atm card to get 320 from the account and then came back and completed the orders. Then when all was said and done, my husband and I said that maybe it wasn't in our best interest financially to have helped THAT much so we sent the slips in for a refund and never got one. It's been a month and still nothing so I got online and saw this site and similar stories. The weird thing is, he came back the next night just to say thanks and meet my husband. We felt it "off" to say the least and so glad we didn't know about the scam until now because it's so horrible that someone would do that. He even knew because I told him it would be putting us in a tight spot but he kept pressuring me about helping him and I wanted to help him as much as I could so lesson learned for me, CHECK the company online second and shut the door first. We haven't seen him again and OBVIOUSLY, I was given grace by God that he wasn't an offender and I am blessed enough to say that I will look through the peep hole and not just assume it's a friend at the door again. It was 40 degrees and all I saw was a post war vet- college student with no car and freezing cold standing at my door. Not the smartest thing in the world to do to give so much in cash because I will never see it again, but mainly to let someone in my home to boot and have them show up the next night just to thank us for helping. He was either really bold, or had no idea he was scamming people, to show up the next night. By the way- his business wallet was packed with checks and cash that night from other apartment owners in the complex- so I learned a lesson but possibly unfortunately less expensive than others in the complex. No follow up from Lrumar, whatsoever.
