I was looking for a home to move into, and was surfing on the internet, specifically craigslist. I was led to believe a certain home was up for sale through phone calls and emails. He gave descriptions of the locations and said it was only $700/month. It was really hard to believe, but i thought i was just lucky. After numerous phone calls and talking to each other, he led me to think that if i paid him, i would immediately move into the home. and so i did. He told me the keys were to come through mail the next day, when that failed to happen, he then cut all connections with me, that is after getting the money.

  • I take it you didnt ever meet the person who was renting the house. I saw such an ad on craigslist which i was interested in. Ironically, the photo of the house had a for rent sign in front of it. I was able to somehow get the phone number and name of the person on the sign and called them. She told me it was a scam. The house was listed for rent on craigslist for $700 but the realtor told me it was actually listed for $2900.

What the scammers do is give you some long story about being shipped out on some mission either Christian or military, etc. So they cant be there to show the property. They ask for money and they will mail the keys. Well, you dont get the keys because they dont own the home to begin with. They list foreign phone numbers to heaven knows where and of course will try to gain your trust. If they ask you to send money, dont do it. ITS A SCAM! Sorry you got taken. Be careful in the future and check out craigslist scam information.
