    • LSM Fashion House Complaint / User Submitted Image #5805

A clothing designer on etsy.com with the shop name LSMFashionHouse promised to make me $326.00 worth of custom made clothing including shirts and a jacket that I designed. She had a shop full of clothes that were supposedly made and designed by her, an official website, and at first, was good with fast communication in the beginning of our collaboration. She promised to ship all my items by January 18 and after a few weeks, I began to wonder why I never received my items. She never responded to my e-mails and Etsy eventually shut down all her different Etsy accounts. She has now opened a new scam business called Number 722 that is supposedly connected to a clothing boutique called "Stitched" at the Cottonwood Mall in Albuquerque, NM. The official website is: www.number722.com. You'll notice that there is no "Stitched" in the mall directory for Cottonwood. There are other stores with a name similar to it (e.g. "Stitch It", "Stitch-Stitch", etc.) but none simply called "Stitch".

The scam artist goes by the name Lea McDuffie or sometimes Lea Shonnel. She always uses the same contact phone number for her scam businesses that purport to offer "design services". The phone number is always 1-800-707-8364. No one ever answers the phone.

Don't be fooled by this con artist. She will stop at nothing.

  • I was taken in by her too - but for services rendered. Lea does not actually make any clothing and does not actually design a damn thing. She uses samples from a Chinese sweatshop manufacturer and takes photos from their wholesale catalogs. None of her items are "custom" and that is probably why you never got any clothing - they don't exist. I make clothing and purses local to her in Albuquerque, and she hired me to make some samples for her, and never paid me for the finished items, just took them and ran. I found out later that I had the bad fortune of being scammed by her, and made sure Etsy knew about it.

  • Thanks for sharing! I'm glad I'm not the only one! Do you mind my asking how she was able to recruit you to make samples for her? How did you know that she takes samples from a Chinese sweatshop manufacturer? Did you ever meet her in person? As I mentioned in my report, I found she has a new business now called Number 722 which she claims is connected to a boutique store called "Stitched" at the Cottonwood Mall. I tried googling to figure out whether the Cottonwood Mall even exists and if in their directory any such store is there. I didn't find it there. If you're local to Albuquerque, have you heard anything about this store?

What makes me mad is that she keeps getting away with this stuff and ripping people off. She needs to be stopped and yet it seems we can't given that most people's dealings with her have been online and not in person. We don't have nearly enough evidence or material to get this girl the jail time she deserves!

  • She posted an ad on Craigslist and I answered it. She gave me fabric, and pictures, and I (stupidly) agreed to make the dress and deliver it to her for payment at time of delivery. She said she would pay me via Paypal and I left, only to be ignored by her since. I did meet her in person and I do know her personal address. As for the Chinese sweatshop clothing, one of my friends who is also a legitimate designer confirmed it and showed me the wholesale website she gets the samples from, I can ask her to give it to me again if you would like.

Cottonwood Mall does exist; I called them today and they confirmed there is a store there called Stitched with no phone number and I plan to go find out if it is actually her venture or if she is piggybacking off someone else to scam money.

It is really sad that this has gone so far. She had at least four stores that I know of that were removed from Etsy for violation of the TOS - selling non handmade items, customer orders that never materialized, etc. It makes us honest Etsy sellers look bad.

  • I first suspected of being scammed after never receiving my order and then found incredibly negative feedback in her Etsy shop. I contacted that Etsy customer to see what happened and it was a similar story. She told some lie about her shop being stolen and none of her packages going out. She promised other customers she would refund them but never did. As for me, she never even responded. I reported all her shops on Etsy after finding out she had more than one and they were all shut down. I also reported her to PayPal and they also shut down her account after never replying to the request to refund me. PayPal refused to refund me beause I had waited past the given amount of time you're supposed to file the report...but that was because I was dumb enough to think Lea was honest! We made the custom order such a long time ago that by the time I realized it wasn't coming, it was too late to get my money back.

I think I've found her Twitter page. Maybe you can tell me if this is the right Lea given you've met her in person (http://twitter.com/#!/LeaShonnel). She seems to have a photography business too (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Lea-Shonnel-Photography/154681779544) and is posing as a model as well (http://www.exploretalent.com/leamcduffie?turn_on=acting).

She also claims to be from a number of different locations--including Long Beach, Los Angeles, and Albuquerque. I don't know what this girl is playing at, but it's ridiculous.

I'm sorry this happened to you too! I'm not sure what we can do to make this woman stop, but I hope more people who have been scammed by her will speak up!

  • I'm really sorry about that, it sucks you never got your money back. I also reported all of her Etsy stores, and I'm guessing her Paypal address being shut down is one of the reasons they never got back to me about the scam reports. I also reported her to her domain registrar as a scam.

The Twitter and Facebook are definitely her. The acting profile, I don't know for sure, the photo is too manipulated for me to be certain. When I met her she claimed to be from Albuquerque, moved to LA, and then came back here to run her business.

I really hope more people do speak up. I do have all the e-mails she ever sent me as proof that she did agree to pay me, and I'd be happy to take this to court if necessary, if not for the money she owes me but for all the other people that got swindled out of money or services.

  • Hello!

I am another stupid stupid victim of her scam. I met her in person. I went to her house. I met her BF and her son. Can you believe the nerve? She posted an ad on craiglist looking for an assistant to her fashion business. She hired me on the spot. A few days later she sent me links to gvnmt websites to download a W4 form to get me on 'payroll.' Because I am a nice decent person, and have been unemployed for about 3 months, I was happy to get on payroll, make some money and help a young lady out. Sure enough after about 2 weeks she sends me an email how her accountant fled with all the money from Stitched, but not to worry, I was to still be paid. Yesterday she sends me another text laying me off because she was 'advised to do so.' Mind you a few days before I caught her redheanded with having posted on craigslist for another assistant. I asked her how come and she replied we need 5 more people on board. 5???? She hasn't even acquired any merchandise to sell. She doesn't have a shop. Her house-based boutique is a sham - her house looks like shit, the neighborhood looks like shit (I'm not judging, aside from the fact that I don't know how she would have gotten the targeted clientele to come to her home?!!), I should have known. I was in charge of finding 200+ items for her future boutique. Expensive items. I worked non-stop for the past 3 weeks trying to get her 'shop' going. 40-50 hours spent in front of my computer, excited to have a job and excited to help someone like her out. BIG MISTAKE. i met with her today and confronted her about it. She didn't admit to anything, probably for legal reasons. She owes me close to $1500. This is the strange part - today she handed me a check for $750. I told her we are going together to a check-cashing point (Post Office in our case.) We cashed it and so I said she needs to give me the rest. She said she had frozen her accounts and can't access any money. Meanwhile I was going bat-crazy calling her out on everything. I felt so stupid and played out. Because in the end she probably needed my SS number. Which she has, along with copies of my ID and SS card. The thing is - I have terrible credit. My thoughts are - now she scams people for their SS numbers. However hands her their info AND has good credit is F***ed. Royally. My good friend is a lawyer and I'll be damned if I don't see a check in the mail by Nov. 5th (she said I will see the rest then) she's going to jail. WE are too many to let her go. I feel bad for her 2yo son. Awful mother to have. AWFUL.

  • Wow, I can't believe Lea's scams are only getting worse! Actually, soon after beanbun (user above) filed a complaint on scambook, I received an email from Lea after almost a year of complete silence and lack of communication. She wrote to tell me that she knew I was upset, I had every right to be, wasn't going to try to explain herself, but had an offer. She offered to refund me the money I lost if I agreed to sign a statement that said I would take down my negative reports online and promise never to write anything negative again. She kept asking me to provide my mailing address so she could mail me my check. It had SUSPICIOUS written all over it!

I told her that it was impossible for me to delete the Scambook report, even if I wanted to! I could only promise to insert a comment stating that we had resolved the issue, but everything else I said in my report was 100% true. She gave me some sob story about how people were harassing her at her business and at her home. She kept saying, "I have a son and a family to think about!" She should've thought of that before she went into the scamming business! She threatened to sue me for harassment. It was ridiculous. First of all, even if it was true that other customers were berating her on the phone or in person, it's no fault of mine. It's because she's been ripping people off. I'm not responsible for other people's behavior. Secondly, I sent her several emails to ask for my money back. I never received the products I ordered and to this day, she refuses to refund me.

I also asked that she send me a cashier's check and suggested we both sign documents with a notary public present and via registered mail. I said I would sign nothing unless she also signed a document stating she would agree never to attempt to file a lawsuit against me.

Surprise, surprise. After I gave my stipulations, I never heard from her again. I didn't even bother trying to contact her again. Just a month ago I checked back with her fake business "Stitched" and noticed that the website was down. She probably is off creating a new fake business to scam people.

It's truly puzzling how someone can be without any moral conscience! I am so sorry to hear that she not only took thousands of dollars from you, wasted your time, but also has your private information! I highly encourage you not only to file a report on Scambook, but to file an official report with the Internet Crime Complaint Center (www.ic3.gov). They haven't done anything for me, but it doesn't hurt to file an official report with the authorities. I think the more people speak up, the more likely we can get this woman arrested!

Don't be afraid if this woman threatens to sue. She wouldn't dare. There is not only a wealth of evidence against her, but if she won't take the time to refund angry customers/clients/employees, she definitely won't fork out the amount of money required to even file a lawsuit. Going to court is definitely not cheap, and there is no way Lea stands a chance in court. She knows it and is only making empty threats. This woman needs to be stopped!

  • surefire, I have added that group and posted whatever relevant info I could. Also, I have e-mailed you, my email address has cheeze in it.

Stitched does not exist at Cottonwood Mall, I went today to check. In fact, unless Foot Locker, Kay Jewelers or Hot Topic randomly went out of business in the last few years and then reopened in the exact same locations, there's really no place for Stitched to have ever been. So that was a lie to make herself appear more believable as well.

  • She scammed me too, only instead of promising to make me a custom dress she had me SEND HER MY OWN to copy. I checked her feedback and it was all positive at the time. I sent her my absolute favourite dress in my size perfectly plus $20 (promising another $70 when it was done) and now my favourite dress is GONE.

  • Elizabeth, I am so sorry to hear that she did that to you! That is the first time I've actually heard her basically steal other people's clothes. Unfortunately, I am sure she will use it to sell to others. I've talked to customers who told me that they ordered something and she has either sent them vaguely close to what they wanted, or something not close to it at all. I'm glad you spoke out, though! Thank you! The more we can raise awareness, the more we can help others from being scammed, too!

  • Thank you. It was an alchemy project, where I had posted a photo and asked someone to make the dress. She had about 9 positive feedbacks at the time under LSMFashionHouse, I wasn't even aware of the following companies until after thinking of the dress AGAIN, I googled once more (it happened before this ever existed, I googled when I first stopped hearing from her). Etsy and Paypal of course did nothing about it. I informed her the dress had some tears in it and a strap was broken and needed repaired. The thought that my dress was sold to someone else to placate them instead horrifies me!! IF ANYBODY sees this and has a white floor length cotton dress in a size XS with a floral pattern coming up it, I will pay to get it back. It was actually important to me. I wish she had taken my money.

  • Elizabeth, that sucks. I can at least tell you I did not see your dress when she was scamming people here. She has most recently been scamming people in California, so I don't know about there.
