A representative with a thick Filipino accent called stating that I had requested to cancel an online listing with this company and that if I did not cancel today it would auto renew for $599. They confirmed my business address which was incorrect and stupid me actually gave them my real address. Then they said they would pass me to their Quality Control person and they would give me a cancellation ID number. They would then call me back to get the cancellation ID number. They told me that if I did that I would get an invoice for $599 but they would then change it to $0 so don't worry I wouldn't have to pay it. That's when I figured it was a scam. I told them I never listed with them and that I believed this was a scam. The Quality Control person said he would verify this with his supervisor and call back within 24 hours. They called within 5 minutes and it was a female named "Camille" who simply repeated what the first person stated about how I needed to cancel today to prevent auto-renewal. I told her I did not believe this was not a legitimate company and did not wish to continue with the phone call. She stated they were www.publicyellowpages.com and I again stated I did not believe it was a legitimate company. I hung up and am now worried that they have my address and can send me an invoice for $599.

  • YOU WERE WISE IN RECOGNIZING THIS WAS A SCAM...READ ON WHAT I HAVE BEEN SUGGESTING TO OTHERS....
NEVER NEVER EVER GIVE ANYONE YOUR CREDIT CREDIT CARD NUMBER ESPECIALLY YOUR DEBIT CARD NUMBER TO ANYONE OVER THE PHONE OR ONLINE UNLESS YOU HAVE RESEARCHED THE COMPANY THROUGH GOOGLE.COM....ALSO NOT A GOOD IDEA TO GIVE YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER TO FAMILY OR FRIENDS...PERIOD. THAT IS YOUR PERSONAL PROPERTY. CONTACT YOUR BANK OR GO TO THEM AND BLOCK THE AMOUNT . YOU USUALLY HAVE 48 HOURS HOLDING PERIOD AT THE BANK BEFORE IT CLEARS,(WELL THAT IS HOW MY BANK OPERATES) IF YOU ARE TOO LATE THEN JUST CANCEL YOUR CREDIT CARD (IT'S A LITTLE INCONVENIENT FOR US BUT WORTH IT) AND GET A NEW ONE. I HAD TO DO THAT AND GOT A NEW ONE THE SAME DAY. PLEASE PASS THIS ON TOO SO THAT WE CAN STOP THESE KINDS OF ABUSE THROUGH SCAMS.

  • My scam date August 2011 and Yes, Yes, and Yes, They got me. All you have to do is say YES to pretty much any question they ask and your liable. Public Yellow Pages FAXED me my 1st invoice yesterday. I am 4 months behind of course. But the only person you can talk to tells me he will lower the price to $499.00 if i give him a credit card number or check by phone. So I looked in the Public yellow pages and found an Attorneys name in his listing that I know. The attorney does not have an account with this advertising co of course. on the advice of this attorney in any going to send public yellow pages a cashers check and a letter explaining they are to remove my co. name, not to contact me again or they can speek with my attorney. Lessen learned. Always ask for the account number, they will eather give it to you or hang up..... Last but not least I have a Phone number and Name to go with this company if any one whats it. The phone number they give you is bogus....

  • Hold up. Found out some new info. A collection agency and the company can not be one in the same. So I will not be paying for this bill at this present time. If this is a lagit company they will have to send me to a lagit collection agency.. I'll post my finding at a future date.

  • I have the same situation with Public Yellow pages. They somehow got my receptionist to answer yes on some recording saying that she authorised a $599 advertisement on my behalf and that I would get an invoice. When I got the invoice, I told them to cancel it. Silly me, no cancellation no. Got a fax yesterday, 5 months late fees which was written in small writing that it would automatically got tagged if the account was not settled in 15 days plus $40 o administration fees. I have one week to pay up or risk going to collection. I went into public yellow pages- I am not listed, in fact they spelled Palo Alto as Alo Alto.

I have lodged a complaint to NY BBB, the FTC and the head of localsearchorganisation.com. These people are in charge of the yellow pages- if this is a real yellow pages company.

These scammers should be reported and prosecuted. The FTC has successfullly procesecuted other fake yellow pages. Don't let them get away with it.

  • ALMOST got me! Thankfully as I was on the phone with the first caller, I was googling SCAMS YELLOW PAGES and found this trail.
Basically same story-Guy Number One wants to help me cancel my account but it has to go through Quality Assurance to get a confirmation number for the cancellation and a verbal confirmation that I OWE them $599. Then, he would call back and personally help me credit our account. Guy Number 2 kept denying this was a scam--tried to give me a website that didn't work. When I finally asked for an account number and account name--he hung up. Guy Number One called back and asked if I got the confirmation number and I started to read the scam details from this website. He shut down quickly and I hung up. Thanks for this website and your stories. Hate these predators...
